The holidays can be a tough season when you’re missing someone you love. Whether it’s a loss, distance, or life simply moving in different directions, the absence is felt. But even in the midst of that, there’s room for light, joy, and reflection. This year, I’m choosing to honor the holidays with two things that keep my spirits lifted and my heart full—because no matter what, #she kept trucking.
1. Create New Traditions That Celebrate Their Legacy
One way I’ve found to bring comfort during the holidays is by creating something new in honor of those I miss. Cook their favorite dish, listen to their favorite holiday music, or light a candle in their memory. This isn’t about replacing the old traditions—it’s about carrying a piece of them forward in a way that feels good to your soul.
For me, every time I hear the laughter of my family around the table or see the joy in giving back to others, it feels like I’m keeping a part of them alive. It’s a beautiful reminder that their love, influence, and spirit didn’t end—they’re still here, just in a different way.
2. Focus on Gratitude for What You Have
Gratitude is a game-changer. When the weight of missing someone starts to creep in, I shift my focus to the blessings I still have. Maybe it’s your children, your partner, a close friend, or even your own strength that’s carried you through hard times.
I remind myself to celebrate the gift of life, the lessons learned, and the memories made. Gratitude doesn’t erase the pain, but it creates space for joy to shine through. It allows you to see that while one chapter may have ended, a new one is waiting to be written.
So, as the holiday season approaches, let’s take a moment to honor the ones we love, reflect on their legacy, and hold onto the gratitude that carries us forward. This year, no matter what, we’re going to keep on trucking babes—one day, one tradition, one blessing at a time.
